Sophrology

Sophrology is a term that is derived from Greek words:
sos - harmony, phren - consciousness, logy - study of

Sophrology uses a set of different tools to help restore balance in body and mind. The method was invented in 1960 by a Colombian psychiatrist Alfonso Caycedo. Since that period many different schools of Sophrology have appeared. In general terms, it encompasses and is inspired by both Oriental (Yoga, Zazen meditation) and Western (hypnosis, psychology and phenomenology) techniques to improve psychological and physical wellbeing.

Sophrology is a structured method that employs breathing, dynamic relaxation, concentration and visualisation exercises.

Key Benefits:

• Stress reduction
• Increased self-confidence and self-esteem
• Restored inner security feeling
• Improved concentration and memory
• Better physical and emotional health
• Decreased chronic pain

It’s used to re-programme our mind in a positive way so that we can find it easier to reach our goals and introduce positive changes to our behavioural patterns. It has proved itself to be very efficient in overcoming phobias or minor traumatic experiences.

Sophrology sessions can take place via Skype.

How does it work?

You are firstly invited to explain what you feel is the area of your life that you would like to work on.
A relaxation session is offered afterwards.
Then I suggest a programme (usually 6-10 Sophrology sessions) that suits your needs and should help you restore your wellbeing and reach your goal.
After that, each session will consist of a set of dynamic relaxation exercises and will be followed by a visualisation technique: as a part of each session, I will aim to put you into a so-called ‘sophroliminal state’. This is a state of deep relaxation obtained through progressively relaxing body and mind, and can be compared to the state reached when meditating. During this time, a bridge between the conscious and subconscious mind is established. Once you find yourself in the sophroliminal state, different tools will be used in order to introduce positive changes to your mind, according to your needs and wishes.
